Journey back to the foundations of American Episcopalian worship. Following the American Revolution, the newly formed Protestant Episcopal Church needed a liturgy for a new nation. The resulting 1789 Book of Common Prayer married traditional English prose with elements from the Scottish Episcopal tradition—most notably the Epiclesis, an explicit invocation of the Holy Spirit over the bread and wine.
This service is shaped by the liturgical scholarship and pastoral advice of Dr. Derek A. Olsen structurally ordering our worship to reflect the exact theological flow intended by America’s first bishops—though we have chosen to remain on level ground rather than using the historical high pulpit.
We invite you to enter deeply into this historic rite, anchoring ourselves in the same faith that shaped the young American republic.
